Tsuneo’s eyes grew wide as the assailant appeared before him, sword raised. He willed his feet to move, his throat ran dry, and his voice refused to work. All he could do was mentally scream at his body to do something, anything, to just react. He watched the sword swing down and fall towards his body.

Finally, he felt the coiled energy within him break loose, and he leapt to the side, barely registering the sound of metal scraping against metal as the sword glanced off of his forehead protector which was wrapped around his upper arm.

As he regained his balance his muscle memory kicked in and it was as if the world, which had been moving like thick molasses up until that point, was finally back up to speed.

In one grand moment he was back, and dodging the next swing of the sword, lashing back out with a pair of kunai held in his hands like a pair of daggers. He was finally back in his element as he paired off against the scout who moved with mechanical-like precision.

They exchanged blows and swipes of blades, Tsuneo made a mental note to himself to work on his skill with weapons in the future. He back flipped out of swords reach and threw a well-aimed kunai at the attacker, catching him in the chest.

Tsuneo suppressed a cry of victory as he watched the man simply stand there and pull it out of his chest. He felt a single bead of sweat work its way down his next and spine and a chill ran up his body.

He quickly recovered from his surprise and dove in, he wove around the man’s short sword, paring it away with his kunai as best he could. He barely felt the sharp blade dig into the meat of his shoulder, choosing instead to focus on getting in close enough to deal some real damage.

Then, the battle was over as Tsuneo was finally able to get in close and deliver a series of punches, kicks, and uppercuts, focusing on his opponent’s head and lower torso. With one final, mighty kick, the attacker was flying off the wall, his limp body crashing into the ground far below.

Tsuneo watched for a moment to make sure he didn’t get back up, and when the dust cleared and the body remained he turned back to the fight and leapt off the wall, landing lightly. His back to the wall, and steely determination in his gaze he strode boldly into the fray, his green cape billowing around his ankles.

Coldness set into his bones, and a quiet determination took over his moments as his gaze swept the battlefield. He watched as his comrades valiantly fought against the seemingly endless swarm of masked strangers. His brain screamed at him to stop and retreat, to find his teammates. He knew how dangerous it was to be alone in the midst of this bloodshed. He ignored his internal warnings, not entirely sure as to why, all he knew was that he wouldn’t be defeated again. He wouldn’t let her die again.
